Travelogue

We are Car nuts just like you. This is where we tell you about our visits to some really great car shows and cool car events. Each show or event has a website that tells you the why, where, when etc of the event. That is not our purpose here. We will tell you what it is like to experience the event as we did and what kind of cool stuff you will see if you go. The opinions expressed are purely our own and we give you the unvarnished, brutally honest truth to help you decide if you want to check it out for yourself. If you have any questions about these events email us at yourautomementos@bellnet.ca and we will answer them for you.

Porsches 2 Oxford

Porsches 2 Oxford

The skies were wet in every direction, but uptown Oxford remained dry as the rural college town along the Ohio-Indiana border entertained an event-record 445 cars (480 registered) for its sixth annual ‘Casual Porsche Party.’ Owners brought their cars from 17 states, two Canadian provinces, and 34 Porsche Club of America regions, the latter also a new benchmark. The 445 attendees surpass last year’s record attendance of 409 Porsches.

Worlds Largest Porsche Only Swap Meet

As a Porsche lover this event is a must to attend! The Central PA Region of the Porsche Club of America brings its world-famous Porsche-Only Swap Meet to Hershey, Pennsylvania, every April. For years, we have wanted to attend this meet. I have seen it advertised in Panorama as being “without exaggeration the largest event of its kind on the planet. It typically brings nearly 650 vendors, around 1,000 Porsches, and over 6,000 visitors together in Hershey every year”. In addition to the swap meet, they offer a People’s Choice Concours plus a Porsche Corall for a great opportunity to see an amazing cross section of Porsches finest.

Cars & Coffee in Irvine, California

Cars & Coffee in Irvine, California

Cars & Coffee in Irvine, California is an amazing car show and totally different from Garden Grove. It features an eclectic mix of all types and models with what seems like only the best of each genre present. Likely about 400 cars in total, ranging from amazing period Hot Rods built (during the 50's and 60's) out of 30's Fords and Chevys to the mighty Bugatti Veyron. Yes, it was easy to find the Veyron, it was

Russo and Steele Auctions Scottsdale, Arizona

Russo and Steele Auctions Scottsdale, Arizona has another 600 cars to sell! Similar cars to what was at Barrett Jackson with one major difference. This auction has reserve bids that must be met before the vehicle sells. Only about 40% of the vehicles offered for sale actually sold while we were there. With General Admission you are only allowed to view cars in the holding area. General admission is $20. We snuck into the “bidder only” auction area

The Auto Collections, located in The Imperial Palace hotel, La Vegas, Nevada

The Auto Collections, located in The Imperial Palace hotel, La Vegas, Nevada is a must see for any car enthusiast. So many ultra rare cars, so little time! Except for a few unrestored survivors, all are restored to an amazingly high standard. The advertising hype tells you they are all for sale, but about 15% are not. Pricing seems to be about triple what I expected except for a very original, little 356

The Pomona Swap Meet and Car Show, Pomona, California

The Pomona Swap Meet and Car Show, Pomona, California is the biggest car event I have ever seen, they usually have over 3500 cars on hand either being shown or on sale at this one day event. Sheryl was convinced that when we arrived at 6 am (it opens at 5) we would be the only ones there. Nope! It was packed and there was a line-up to get into

Barrett Jackson – Scottsdale, Arizona.

Barrett Jackson – Scottsdale, Arizona. One huge event! They sell about 1200 cars in 7 days, and have 250,000 people attend over the week long event. It takes 5 minutes to get there from the hotel but finding a parking spot takes 30 minutes and walking to the entrance takes another 15 minutes. A huge vendor area just inside the entrance sells all sorts of automotive art, clothing and car accessories as well as patio furniture, jewellery and ….mattresses!!!? The auction itself

Carroll Shelby’s Museum, Las Vegas, Nevada

Carroll Shelby’s Museum, Las Vegas, Nevada is not on the LV "must see" list but worth the side trip if you happen to have rented a car. Don’t take a cab, it wouldn't be worth the expense. There were about 25 cars on display, including several iconic original Cobras from the 60’s
